Cold Coffee Morning
A pencil drawing of my niece of a photograph taken by my sister, which she had taken the previous year. They sometimes go out together along the seafront and on this particularly cold morning, they stopped for a hot drink to warm-up.
I was particularly drawn to this image as you can see the relaxed nature of the moment, my niece can see my sister taking the picture out of the corner of her eye and I liked the small details of the chipped nail varnish she has on.
I gridded up this image (which is normal practice for me on my detailed drawings) however was very nervous about drawing the hands - which is not something I practice at often - but am fairly please with how this turned out.
I was worried it that the full fleece jacket would overwhelm the image, as it was so dark, so I simply drew the hint of the fleece. Hopefully this adds to the overall impact of the image, whilst still maintaining focus on the face.
