Charlotte Moss
I picked up a pencil and rekindled my old love of drawing around 10 years ago. The first few pictures I drew, let's be honest were not brilliant, but I enjoyed the process and slowly started to improve.
This site is a catalogue of my progress, of a self taught artist trying to learn how to draw in the sidelines of a full time job.
In the absence of attending art college, I try glean as much information and different techniques from in-person and online courses, as well as being inspired by the talented teaches who host them. A few of my favourites are:
The Royal Drawing School, London - they host many online and in-person courses throughout the year.
Isbel Mysercroft who teaches brilliant regular classes at the Royal Drawing school. A very lovely teacher who encourages colour and experimenting with materials and techniques.
Jake Spicer - an incredible teacher who founded (or co-founded?) DRAW in Brighton. And the author of many great books on how to draw. I first attended a weekend class that Jake ran at the National Portrait Gallery and he was very encouraging and very patient!
Sadie Lee, a fabulous artist and teaches at the National Portrait Gallery I have attended a weekend course on art and light and she was incredible at showing new techniques to focus on sun and shadow.
Jane French, an amazing artist who teaches at West Dean College. Fresh from being shortlisted in her heat on Sky Arts Portrait Artist of the year, she is very clear on explaining her process, which we all simply tried to copy - with varying levels of success!
